Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and The Unbroken Table Limited ("we", "us"), a company registered in New Zealand (NZBN 9429053895943). They apply when you create an account or use The Unbroken Table.

1. Who can use The Unbroken Table

You must be at least 16 years old to hold an account. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian can keep a Table on your behalf. Accounts for younger people with a guardian's involvement may come later.

2. Tables and roles

A Table is the private space where a family keeps its people, originals, recipes and memories.

• Every Table has one Keeper, who decides who joins, what role they have, and can remove members.
• Contributors can add and correct things. Viewers can see what is shared with the Table.
• The Keeper can nominate a successor, who does not need an account. Our succession policy explains what happens if a Keeper dies or can no longer look after the Table.
• Nobody joins a Table without an invitation.

3. Your content stays yours

You keep ownership of everything you add: photographs of originals, recipes, stories and memories.

You give us a limited licence to store it, process it (including reading handwriting with AI, when switched on), show it to the people you share it with, and make the exports and prints you ask for. That licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies in backups until they expire (see our Privacy Policy) and content other people legitimately hold.

We never sell your content, and we never use it to train AI models.

4. What you confirm when you add something

• You have the right to upload it, for example it belongs to your family or you have permission.
• You take care when sharing information about other people, especially living people and children.
• It follows our Acceptable Use Policy.

5. Contributions to someone else's Table

What you add to another person's Table stays attributed to you. Leaving a Table does not remove what you contributed. If you want your contributions removed, you can ask; how that works is set out in our Privacy Policy.

6. Our preservation promise

We take keeping your family's things seriously. We commit to:

• keeping regular backups;
• letting you export everything you can see, at any time, on every plan;
• never deleting or hiding what you have kept because a subscription ends or a limit is reached;
• giving you at least 90 days' notice and a way to export if we ever close the service.

We cannot promise the service will never be interrupted or that no data can ever be lost. Keep your own export of anything irreplaceable.

7. Reading handwriting with AI

Readable versions produced by AI are drafts. They may contain mistakes, and uncertain words are marked. The original is always kept exactly as it was, and you can correct the readable version.

8. Subscriptions

During early access The Unbroken Table is free. When paid plans arrive, we will explain prices, renewals and cancellation clearly before you are charged. Downgrading or cancelling never deletes anything you have kept.

9. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time. Our Privacy Policy explains what happens to your content and to content you added to other people's Tables. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.

10. Liability and your rights under consumer law

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or the consumer laws of the country you live in. Where the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and New Zealand courts can hear disputes. If you live elsewhere, you keep any rights the law of your country gives you that cannot be excluded.

12. Changes to these terms

If we make a material change, we will tell you before it takes effect and ask you to accept the new version. The version you accepted is recorded with your account.
